Plant. Nurture. Share: Raising Cool Weather Crops

Tuesday, April 1 - 5:00 to 6:30pm, $10

Join Ben Casteel, Horticulture Instructor, as he shares techniques on how to raise cool weather crops. These crops flourish in lower temperatures and are perfect for early spring planting. Participants receive a cool season plant to jump start your crop. Also included is a preview of the popular plant sale coming up on April 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th where you will meet Greenhouse Manager Jen Dufresne.

An essential destination for a relaxed, elegant and truly unforgettable dining experience, the Martha is the perfect place for Afternoon Tea.

Freshly-baked cakes, precisely-cut sandwiches, unsurpassable scones & countless pots of tea are served in this lovely setting.

All youth admissions receive a FREE craft sponsored by My Little Fabric Shop. Design your own headband, bonnet, or hat and debut your creation at the High Tea at The Martha.

Wednesday, April 3, 3:30-5:30pm — Sisters American Grill at The Martha, $25

Talk. Share. Taste.

Join Willie Bordwine, pastry chef at The Martha, long-time pastry chef at the Harvest table, as he talks about the challenge of interpreting historical or family recipes.  A “pinch of” and “stir until it looks right” can lead to mixed results.  Often these recipes are long on tradition and expectation and short on details!  Bring a recipe that you are struggling with and as the talk and sharing continues Willie will serve his fabulous biscuits and his favorite cookie straight from the oven!

A cookie decorating workshop for kids aged 3 and above (and a parent) at Shaked, a dessert restaurant owned by friends and business partners Cassie Rowe and Kitzi Manuel at 284 W Main.  Bring your kids and we will provide the cookies and the fun and our budding pastry chefs will be able to sample their delicious creations.

Sunday, April 14,  3-5pm, Stormbrew Farm $35

Farm. Taste. Sip. 

Stormbrew Farm is a flower farm & supplier of produce for many Abingdon restaurants. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how your food is grown locally with Daisy and Jenny of Stormbrew Farm. Guests will begin on a guided farm tour, sampling spring produce throughout. Afterwards we will reconvene in the farm building for a taste of farm-grown snacks. Stormbrew IPA and an herb-infused mocktail will be available for sampling as well. Join Daisy and Jenny for the Stormbrew Experience, a new twist on agriculture, stemming from Appalachian roots.

Experience the twist that Mohsin and Katlin Kazmi, owner operators of Pakalachian Food Truck, bring to a 3-course buffet supper, at Elizabeth Gardner’s Full Bloom Farm House.   Lori Briscoe from Appalachian Teas and Botanicals collaborates with Appalachian Heritage Distillery to craft 2 wonderful cocktails and her foraged ingredients will be part of the buffet. Hear what motivates our hosts and culinary artists as we eat and as they bridge cultures by reinventing, adapting and serving food from their roots, local and global.
